Ilene Gold | Monument Sotheby’s International Realty | Art Gallery Event
August 10 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Please join us on Thursday, August 10th, from 4-6 pm at our Ruxton Office & Gallery to enjoy the work of Ilene Gold.
Ilene Gold creates collages using only National Geographic magazines. Cutting thousands of pieces of paper and assembling them into a new image. The collage idea started by recreating famous paintings made entirely from National Geographic magazines. As this medium evolved, a new collection started with the re-creation of Ilene Gold’s award-winning photographs, still using only National Geographic magazines. Look closely and you may find a hidden phrase or words within some of her pictures. She tries to capture a painterly quality with each collage. It seems she is almost painting with paper.
As early as 10 years of age, Ilene sold her first painting. From a Fine Arts major to an Advertising & Design major, Ilene has continued to work in the art field. A graduate of the University of Maryland, majoring in Graphic Arts, with continuing studies in Fine Arts at MICA and writing at Johns Hopkins University. She worked as a graphic designer for advertising agencies from Barton-Gillet to Lewis Advertising. While living in Florida, she worked for Recommend and Boca Raton Magazines. She has taught art at Grace United Methodist Church, Baltimore Hebrew Sunday School, The Painting Workshop, Johns Hopkins Art Camp, Park Camp, and Howard County Center for the Arts.
Her photography from the US, Europe, and the Middle East has won her awards and has been published in national magazines. Prints of her collage artwork have sold in New York, Paris, Nice, Maryland-The Baltimore Museum of Art, The Baltimore Museum of Industry, West Virginia, Arizona, CA, and Florida.
