Artist Statement:
My life changed dramatically in 1998 when I first picked up a paintbrush. I was in my early 60’s when I shocked myself by asking my friend and Baltimore artist, Tammra Sigler, if she minded if I came to her class. I explained that I had never painted and just wanted to try something new, maybe even go outside the lines. Tammra graciously humored me and agreed I could come. I came to my first class with great trepidation and a book on how to paint. I have never forgotten how I felt that day. I struggled to paint a live model for 3 solid hours and couldn’t wait for the next class. What started as a lark became my passion.
My career as a psychologist fed right into my love of painting people. I found I was not satisfied with painting a nice face or pretty flowers. My paintings had to talk to me. They had to have an attitude. Thus, the name of the show is ATTITUDES. You’ll find my titles reflect my relationship with each painting. You’ll also find accidental faces in my flowers and abstracts.
So, now I’m 86 and I’ve never stopped painting. I have a large body of work
and would like to find them a good home. I hope you enjoy the show.
