Regina DeLuise has worked in the medium of photography for four decades. She is a Guggenheim Fellow and Faculty Emerita at Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. Regina continues to shoot film and works with an 8×10 large-format view camera. Her photographs are represented in private and public collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Brooklyn Museum, the Art Institute of Chicago, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Smithsonian Museum of American History, the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, and the Canadian Centre for Architecture in Montreal.

DeLuise was represented by Bonni Benrubi Gallery in New York City for 25 years and has exhibited her work nationally and internationally since 1990. She has been awarded residencies at the Bogliasco Foundation in Bogliasco, Italy; the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts in Amherst, VA; MASS MoCA in North Adams, Massachusetts; and was the 2018 Meredith Moody Fellow at Yaddo in Saratoga Springs, NY. She is currently represented by Rick Wester Fine Art in New York City, where she has had solo exhibitions in 2022 and 2024. Regina DeLuise’s first monograph, The Hands of My Friends, was published by Saint Lucy Books in 2024 and has been reviewed in publications including The Guardian, Lenscratch, Border Crossings, The Eye of Photography, and Aesthetica Magazine.

Regina is delighted by the opportunity to work with Jasmine Madiou on the exhibition at Monument Sotheby’s International Realty.

The photographs on view are part of her series, Dreamer’s House.

This work was made at home and abroad and continued at the Bogliasco Foundation outside Genoa, Italy. The villa and environs that house the Foundation were not only an inspiration but became her dominant subject. The idea of refuge and the work of Dreamer’s House continued during the artist residency at Yaddo in Saratoga Springs, NY.

As a photographer, Regina’s work is formal in approach and originates from a place of curiosity and discovery. Utilizing film and a large-format 8×10 view camera, she moves slowly and interprets her surroundings at a pace in opposition to our culture’s spinning clock. As an artist, she leans toward what is unknown in order to create space for direct experience.

The interpretation of home and the mystery of a photograph can describe a sentience, the passage of time, and a universal sense of what each of us craves. In this time of tumult and disorientation, her work looks to an essential foundation—a core experience that amplifies what we all share. Mundane, elegant, or in disarray, the metaphor of home provides a singular order.

Dreamer’s House explores the visual anomalies of the contemporary moment through found stillness and interior space. It is an exploration of the richness of metaphor—how our narrative and the literal material of our lives coalesce into a life.
