Katherine Farrell | Art Gallery Event | Monument Sotheby’s International Realty
December 18, 2025 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Please join us on Thursday, December 18th, from 4-6 pm at our Clarksville Office & Gallery to enjoy the paintings of Katherine Farrell.
Artist Statement
Katherine is a representational oil painter of various subjects but prefers plein air. Trained in the classical methods, she has evolved into an all prima painter who captures a subject relatively quickly from direct observation, although she often has more sustained work projects going on at her studio. She is fascinated by the effects of light and enjoys exploring expressive brushwork and mark making.
Artist Bio
Katherine Farrell was born and raised in Ireland where she attended the Crawford School of Art, taking drawing and watercolor classes. Art took a back seat while she trained as a doctor and came to Maryland for post-graduate education. She worked as a public health physician for the State of Maryland.
On retirement in 2008 she studied at Howard Community College and made five study abroad plein air trips to France and one to Ireland with Professor Peter Collier. She took open studies classes in painting at Maryland Institute College of Art with Professor Duane Lutsko for several years, and also took remote classes at Winslow Art Center with various instructors and with Professor Al Gury at Pennsylvania Academy. She traveled to Croatia
for a workshop with Bernard Delario in 2024 and to Maine for another workshop with Anne Larsen in 2025.
She paints mainly in oil using all prima techniques from direct observation, and has received awards mainly for her plein air work. She shows in juried and invitational exhibitions, mostly in Maryland but has also exhibited in Mill Valley, California, and in Cork, Ireland.
She lives and has a studio in Ellicott City named Sheebeen Busy (after a remark by a visitor). She and her husband Bernard have three daughters and four grandchildren.
