Gillian Collins | Art Gallery Event | Monument Sotheby’s International Realty

April 24, 2025 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Please join us on Thursday, April 24th, from 4-6 pm at our Clarksville Office & Gallery to enjoy the paintings of Gillian Collins.

Artist’s Statement:

It’s difficult to come up with an exhibition title when an artist is continuously reaching beyond their comfort zone. Gillian Collins artistic journey over the past seven years is represented in Salmagundi, a combination of traditional realism and abstraction works from her multiple series.

Surrounded by plumbing/HVAC/electrical materials on a day-to-day basis, Gillian’s 35 years of experience as a co-owner of two plumbing and HVAC residential service companies, inspired her to paint realistic and abstracted mechanical components. Gillian realized that the general populace is unaware of the mechanical components that affect their daily lives.

By divorcing the form from the function of mechanical components, Gillian conveys the importance of these vital but unnoticed engineering feats in her paintings, compelling the viewer to contemplate the foundation of our daily lives. Using traditional oil paint medium and mixed media, Gillian blends historic classic realism with contemporary abstraction to convey the importance of these basic, but unnoticed man-made components.

For the past decade Gillian has been honored to be designated as one of few artists to have permission to copy at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. Copying the great masters, on a weekly basis, has enriched Gillian’s life and enhanced her artistic skills.

Traveling while teaching watercolour on Cunard Cruise Lines is the perfect arrangement for Gillian to see and experience the world, sharing her art passion with fellow travelers on sea days. In the travel series she uses traditional oil or watercolour to convey the essence of the locale.

In addition to teaching on cruise ships, Gillian teaches watercolour classes at two local senior centers and hosts workshops locally and in North Carolina.

The exhibit will be on display through August 15th 2025, and may be viewed by appointment. Please call 443.746.2090
